tim petro: bass

In the early 90’s I fell in love with the work of a bass player named Les Claypool. At the time, I had played other instruments before, many other instruments, but felt there was something new that the bass could offer me. I talked with my dad forever about buying a bass to no avail. Then, one day, he drove me to a store far away to buy a guitar. Not really what I had in mind.

I read books on how to play the guitar to get me started learning. Even though it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to play, I decided it would do. Later, I met some guys who had a band and I got to play their instruments when they weren’t practicing. I was on that bass anytime I could get near it!  Unfortunately, my dad got transferred to Atlanta and I had to leave that behind.

Shortly after moving, I got a decent paying job and saved some cash. I took a long drive from Alpharetta to Carrollton and bought a Washburn XB-5. I have been playing bass in and out of bands ever since.
